Sunday, 19th – Saturday, 25th April 2015
On Sunday afternoon 56 pupils and 5 teachers from NMS and PTS Waldzell went on a trip to London.
In Greenwich we could see the famous London Observatory and the “Prime Meridian”, which goes straight through Greenwich. At Greenwich Pier we entered a boat on the river Thames which took us straight into the city centre. We visited the Tower of London, which was really exciting. In the evening we met our host families in Norbury.
Tuesday started with a sightseeing tour by coach. We could see Trafalgar Square with Nelson`s column, Piccadilly Circus, the famous St. Paul`s Cathedral, the Millenium Bridge, the Shard, the Royal Court of Justice, London Bridge, Downing Street 10, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge, Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Buckingham Palace. Later in the afternoon we visited Madame Tussaud`s, where we could see lots of wax figures of famous actors and actresses, kings, queens, sportsmen, politicians and film stars. In the evening we visited the famous musical “The Lion King” in the Lyceum Theatre.
On Wednesday morning we went to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Hundreds of steps led us up to the dome and to the galleries from where we had an overwhelming view above the city. Later in the afternoon we went shopping in Covent Garden.
From our meeting point in London Road/Croydon our coach took us to Windsor Castle. At the entrance each of us got an audio guide that gave us a lot of information about the history of Windsor Castle, the marvellous exhibitions in the state apartments and the wonderful St. George’s Chapel, where you can find the tombstone of King Henry VIII. In the afternoon we had a walk past the Buckingham Palace, through Green Park and Hyde Park to Oxford Street.
Another real highlight was the London Eye on Friday morning. We had a wonderful view of the city and the boroughs of London from 135 metres above the ground. In the afternoon we went to Canterbury.
I hope one day we’ll be able to visit London again because this journey was such a wonderful experience. |
